    Hey!

I am new to your software, i used it to scan my network. I used the Admin login / pass of the account created on each machine, but some of the machines status promts (” access is denied “), can you kindly let me know how to rectify this situation, besides that when would you equip your software with linux support.

Looking forward for a very positive reply from your side

    Thanks

Hi, I will try to give you the most positive reply I can, of course.

If you inventory a workgroup-based networks, there might be some pre-configurations required on client side. Mostly these issues never arise in a domain network. So, my first question would be if you are scanning a domain or workgroup?

Secondly, which OS is installed on those computers that return an “Access denied” error? Do they have a firewall enabled?

Also, please, have a look at our Help section, it has a list of common problems explained. You may find an answer there.

Thank you for your interest in our product. Send in more questions!

And as for Linux inventory support, I suppose it is scheduled for the beginning of 2009. Please, let me know via e-mail, if you are interested in beta version to try.

Sorry for the delay with my reply. Are these systems firewalled? I have also sent you the beta version which might fix the issue.

    Hi Luca,

Is this node on a workgroup network, or in a domain? Are you sure you are using the correct login credentials when scanning this node?

Have you checked our Help section and can confirm that all solutions in FAQ#1 are OK with this system? Here’s the link again: https://www.network-inventory-advisor.com/help.html

Also, I sent the latest beta version with a couple of enhancements in scanning process to luca and kkhowaja. Can you confirm the problem with it, guys?

    Thanks…

    Hi Jeff,

Thank you very much for all the information and for sending me the latest version.

I have read your help on common issues, but i dont have any way to fix all the issues on each pc on my network.

Can i have your favor? can you make me a registery, or batch file or a program that configures the PC for me. i just have to run that file on a pc and that disables the firewall, that turns the network access mode to classic, that figuresout any problem and that makes an admin account in the machine that i define to it myself.

i mean a file that has solution for everything, i just have to run it and it does its job..

can you make this for me and for millions of other users who dont register your software just because they dont have much time to configure each pc, and they would be your clients if you can give then autoconfigure file.

    Thanks

I talked to developers, and some of the required configuration changes can really be applied automatically, but definitely not all. And I don’t think there’s a way to configure all firewalls automatically, we can consider handling Windows Firewall only, and the rest of them will have to be tuned manually. Anyway, some kind of troubleshooter will definitely be offered in later updates. But I can’t tell you for sure when exactly.

Which OS is installed on those nodes where you having this “access denied” issue?

    Hey Jeff,

It’s really nice talking to you, thanks for your prompt reply.

I understand that it is almost impossible to create a file that fixes all firewalls.

But why don???‚¬?„?t you take the ideal situation, by creating a file that does the following things

    1. Makes the port that is communicates through excluded from the Windows Firewall.
    2. Makes all the changes to the registry if any.
    3. Register / enable all the windows services required
    4. Creates an admin account (that we could define)
    5. And do any other thing that is needed for it to work properly & to open all accesses for itself
    6. This script or program should be for both OS (WIN, Linux)

I think this is what you can do.

    Thanks

Hello dear Jeff, tankyou for your reply.
I have installed the new version (3.2.779) but the problem is not fixet.
The server is in a domain and I’m logged as administrator.
I have checked the help section and confirm that FAQ1 are OK !
    Who can I do ?
    Thankyou

Luca, can you let me know which scanning and connection methods are used to scan this node? It seems like the self-deploying agent utility is used, can you try to switch to direct scanning via WMI? Anyway, you should have “Try both scanning methods” checkbox enabled. Which format is the username set in? If you are a domain admin, can you try to scan using “current user” setting? If you are specifying the user name manually, can you make sure that this user is the member of Domain admins group? Being in admin group is not enough to scan domain nodes.

kkhowaja, please, see my reply via e-mail (: we will surely be doing some kind of this troubleshooting/auto-configuration utility in the nearest future.

    Hello to everyone !
Sorry but I was out ou office for many day !
    I have resolved the problem:
the server whith PC Inventory is under MASTER domain
the client is under SEDE domain
In the Administrator credentials on PC Inventory I put SEDEAdministrator as user and non only Administrator
    ….is very simple ! ! ! !
    Thanks to all !
    Hello from Italy ! ! !

Thank you Luca. As you could probably mention, the latest update lets you specify different login credentials for different nodes.
